INTERNATIONAL: NBA veteran center Marc Gasol announced on Thursday his return to Spain to play for Girona, a second division basketball club he founded in 2014. The 36-year-old three-time All-Star and NBA 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, will play until the end of the season before making a decision on retiring.
Gasol, the owner and president of Girona, played last season for the Los Angeles Lakers after a championship-winning stint with the Toronto Raptors, who he joined from the Memphis Grizzlies, where he spent over a decade at.
In 2019 Gasol helped Spain to FIBA World Cup glory, a title he also won in 2006, while he has two Olympic silver medals to his name from 2008 and 2012. His brother, Pau, retired from basketball last month following a glittering career in the NBA and with the Spanish national team.
